Avoid These Website Content Creation Mistakes
Off-Topic Content
There are days when you might be tempted to write content on your blog that is not related to your chosen niche. That is completely understandable.
However, if you think this is a good way to drive more traffic to your blog, think again.
The reality is that posting unrelated content will only weaken your position in search engines.
It will also not benefit you with regard to leads or sales.
For example, if your blog is mainly about cryptocurrency, and then suddenly you decide to write about the best vegan recipes, do you think your readers will consider you a reliable source for that topic?
Of course, the answer will be NO.
So stay in your chosen niche. If you are starting to feel you are running out of ideas, try reconnecting with your audience (ex. conduct a survey).
Useless Pop-ups or Other Interruptions
Am I the only one who thinks too many pop-ups on a website are annoying which makes me want to exit the site immediately? I’m pretty sure I’m not alone.
That said, avoid putting pop-ups and interstitial ads that are not going to assist you with your main business or blog goals.
You are only going to upset your visitors and potentially lose them.
Instead, limit those ads and pop-ups and use them only when you are trying to achieve a goal, such as selling a product or getting more email subscribers.
No or Weak Call To Action (CTA)
Do you want your readers to share your blog posts or subscribe to your email list?
Whatever it is, you have to clearly state it in your posts.
Your audience can’t read your mind. They don’t know what action you want them to take.
So to avoid wasting their time, make sure you include a strong CTA in your content.
Content That Is Unnecessary Long
Sure, some people love long content. Even search engines are said to favor long-form articles.
But you have to consider as well that writing long content solely for the purpose of getting traffic is not going to benefit you in the long run.
Especially if your article is boring and drags on too long, you’ll find that visitors will leave before they even have the chance to see your call to action.
Content That Does Not Benefit Your Goals
Don’t be like other bloggers who believe that any content is good content, just because they think it’s another article that can draw blog traffic.
Remember that if it isn’t specifically geared towards helping you achieve your blog or business goals, then don’t waste your time creating it in the first place.
